The Bagua Map: A Complete Guide

八卦图详解

8 min read

The Bagua map is an essential Feng Shui tool that serves as an energy blueprint for any space. This octagonal diagram divides your environment into nine key areas, each corresponding to a different life circumstance, from wealth and prosperity to family and career.

Derived from the I Ching (Book of Changes), the Bagua map contains eight trigrams arranged around a center. Each trigram is represented by three lines - either broken (Yin) or unbroken (Yang) - and carries specific meanings and elemental associations.

To apply the Bagua map to your home, overlay it onto your floor plan with the entrance at the bottom. The area directly opposite your door becomes your Northwest area (Helpful People), while your wealth corner falls in the far left corner from the entrance view.

The Wei Qi (outer Bagua) represents external circumstances and your environment's influence. The Nei Qi (inner Bagua) relates to personal energy and how you interact with your space. Together, they create a complete picture of life energy affecting you.

When areas of the Bagua map are missing from your floor plan - common in L-shaped or irregular rooms - life challenges often manifest in the corresponding life area. Identifying and addressing missing corners is one of the most impactful Feng Shui corrections.
