The Qing Dynasty Imperial Gender Prediction Chart (清宫表) was discovered in the Forbidden City and is believed to have been used by the imperial family during the 17th-20th centuries. It calculates the probability of conceiving a boy or girl based on the mother's age and conception month.
The chart uses two key factors: the mother's lunar age at the time of conception and the lunar month when conception occurred. Cross-reference these two numbers on the chart to reveal the predicted gender. This method combines elements of Yin-Yang theory and the Five Elements.
Traditional Chinese lunar months differ from the Gregorian calendar. The lunar new year begins between January 21 and February 20. To use this chart correctly, convert conception dates to lunar calendar months.
For best results, use your lunar age (虚岁), which is typically your current Gregorian age plus one year. This reflects the traditional Chinese belief that we begin life in the womb.
